[상황별 영어] 우체국에서 꺼내 쓰는 영어

지난주에만 두 번의 우체국 방문이 있었다. 한국으로 부치는 택배는 한국업체를 이용하는게 훨씬 좋아서 우체국을 이용할 일이 별로 없을거라 생각했는데, 그게 아니었다. 호주-뉴질랜드 간의 국제 배송은 한국업체에서 서비스를 제공하지 않아서 우체국 외엔 답이 없었다. 또, 집으로 와야할 우편물이 동네 우체국으로 배달되었다는 이야기에 어쩔 수 없이 찾으러 가야했다.
우편물 찾으러 우리동네 우체국을 들렀다가 퉁명스러운 응대에 또 쪼그라들었다. 하고 싶은 말을 똑바로 못하고 또 어버버하고 나왔더니 속이 약간 쓰리다.. 며칠 뒤 택배 부칠때는 일부러 그 우체국을 피해 다른 곳으로 방문했다. 친절한 중국인 직원이 잘 안내해줘서 잘 해결했지만, 하고자 했던 말이 자연스럽게 나오진 않았다. 다음 방문에는 꼭 자연스럽게 말하리라 다짐하며 우체국에서 쓸만한 영어 표현을 정리해봤다.

 

1. 우편물 찾을 때

- I'm here to pick up a package(my parcel).
- I wanna take my parcel from.
- I tracked the online, it say the package arrived.(but it hasn't been delivered.)
- I was supposed to get it a week ago, but I can't track it.
- I don't know my tracking number, but is there another way that I can find my package?
- Here you go. (신분증 건네줄 때)

3. 우편물 부칠 때

- I wanna send it

- How long would it take by express mail?

- Will it go out today?
