About my hometown

I lived in Ulsan until I was 19, which is the third largest port city in Korea after Busan and Incheon. 
It is also the largest industrial city in Korea.
Ulsan is famous for 'Hyundai', and do you know 'Hyundai'-the Motor Company?
'Hyundai' was born in Ulsan, and apparently most Hyundai cars are produced in Ulsan.
As I said earlier, Ulsan is an industrial city, so there aren't many tourist spots.
So when my friends in Seoul visit to Ulsan, there is not much place to take them.
There is a beach where automobile factories and shipyards are concentrated, people are amazed because it is a unique scenery that cannot be seen in other cities.
But compared to Australia, the seaside scenery of Ulsan is very shabby.
So I think it would be better to visit other cities like Gyeongju or Busan, which are near Ulsan.

My mother lives in a suburb of Ulsan called Unyang. she has been living there for about three years, since she retired.
It's a pretty small and quiet place. And it is famous for 'Unyang-Bulgogi'.
You know, Bulgogi is generally thin slices of beef marinated in a sweet-soy sauce and cooked over flame.
But Un-yang Bulgogi is slightly different from that.
Minced meat marinated in a soy sauce is grilled over a charcoal.
So if you want, come to Unyang and try Unyang Bulgogi. My mother also said that you guys can come home.
You will get to see what it is like to live in korea, like koreans' lifesytle!

And Unyang is not far from Busan and Gyeongju.
It's about 40-minute-drive from Ulsan to Busan and 30-minute to Gyeongju.
So I can take my mother's car and we can get there easily by car.
Busan and Gyeongju have a lot to see.

About Gyeongju

Gyeongju was the capital of Shilla kingdom.
Shilla was a country from about the 5th to the 10th centuries of Korea.
In the late 7th century, Shilla kingdom took control over the whole Korean peninsula, and reached the height of its prosperity.
So Gyeongju became the center of arts, culture and science for about over 1,000 years.
Therefore, there are many historical sites in Gyeongju. Apparently the entire city is listed as a cultural heritage.
Many Korean high school students go to Gyengju for their school trip.
In Gyeongju, there is an unique atmosphere that cannot be felt in other cities like Seoul or Busan.
Gyeongju city is quite small, so you can look around for a day.

첨성대 
It was used to observe stars in order to forecast the weather.
Today it is the oldest existing astronomical observatory in Asia.

월정교
This bridge was constructed more than over 1300 years Shilla Dynasty.
But completely destroyed then recently reconstructed.
It would be better to go there at night because of lights shine on it. 

불국사/석굴암
One of the kings of Shilla Dynasy built this temple for his parents. It took over 20 years to complete the temple.
Bulguksa Temple is a masterpiece of ancient Korean Buddhist art
However it was destroyed or stolen by Japan for serveral times, but it still a valuable Korean national treasure and is listed on UNESCO as well.
